Pesapallo

Pesapallo is the national sport of Finland and it is very similar to baseball. Besides Finland, the game is also played in some other countries, such as Switzerland, Germany, Australia, Sweden, and Canada to name a few. There are two teams with each team consisting of nine players. One of the teams is batting. The player batting needs to hit the ball hard so that it passes the fielders. He then has to run from one base to the other in order to score. He needs to reach the base before the fielder gets the ball in his hands from his counterparts. They also have substitutes in the team called jokers. There are also umpires to judge the game.

They need to know the rules of the game thoroughly. They should also be prepared and should be attentive to everything about the sport. The ball might come their way at any time. A lot of stamina is required as there is a whole lot of running to be done. The managers normally appoint the team by selecting twelve players. Out of this total, nine of them play the game and the rest are jokers. The others get a chance if any person is injured or there are any other issues that inhibit any member that was originally selected from playing a game.

 

The players wear a helmet in order to protect their head. Sometimes, the pitcher throws the ball so hard that the batsman can be hurt. This is why a helmet is a must for this game. Leather gloves are also worn by the players in order to facilitate catching the ball. The player can only catch the ball with the glove. A bat is also required to play the game. The wooden bat is round and cylindrical in shape. Players also use spikes so that they do not slip whilst running on the pitch. As this game requires a lot of running, players should wear spikes so that they get a good grip on the ground. The ball used for this game differs, depending on various categories. That is, men use a ball of 160 to 165 grams; the juniors use a ball of 95 to 100 grams; and women use a ball of 135 to 140 grams.

 

There are many competitions that are held for pesapallo, including world championships. It has become a very popular sport these days. The excitement in the game is just amazing. There is even a world cup played, which includes countries, such as Germany, Sweden, Austria, and Finland. There are a lot of spectators for this game. People come in large numbers to support the team of their choice. There are banners, screams, and hooting that go on when the game is played. It is a nice game to watch as well as play.
