Bossaball

Posted by sportbilly24 on October 29, 2008

Bossaball doesn’t involve a musical ball sport from South America as it may sound. The Belgium-born Bossaball is similar to volleyball though with a twist since it is played over a net on a trampoline-like court.

The inflatable court was specially designed for the sport. A volleyball net divides the court half and the trampolines provide the height and spring needed by the players. The sport is quickly bouncing its way into Europe and South America.

The referees of the game are called samba officials since music of drums, turntables, whistles, and microphones play a big role in the background of the game. The referees also expend a lot of energy, like in dancing samba, when it comes to game officiating.

Timing is the name of the game when playing Bossaball. Two teams that consist of three, four, or five players each has eight touches to set up a perfect spike so the opponent cannot return the ball. The players are allowed to use their hands, feet or head to control the ball in mid air.

Rallies can go on forever especially if the players have great body control and a good sense of the court. If the ball lands on the trampoline the offensive is rewarded three points. A set ends if a team reaches thirty points.

Bossaball is suitable for adults or children since the court height can be adjusted. The court can also be assembled in less than an hour, making it perfect for beach and indoor set-up as well.

Imagine bodies tumbling in the air to the tune of samba, whacking balls from one side of the court to the other.
